I had stopped by sporadically throughout the years and was repeatedly disappointed by the crowd of bots and empty games, but it almost seems like there has been a resurgence in the community when I visited this time around. There are still quite a few popular maps that are regularly hosted like Castle Fight, Risk, tons of variants of Zombie survival like Undead Assault and Swat, various hero arenas, Sheep Tag (and several other 'tag games'), Battle Tanks, and numerous TD's are still quite popular. I was surprised to actually see new games that I had never seen getting repeatedly hosted and actually filling - Some really interesting french pirate game, some game called zemli boga (I think), and a zombie game called Braindead, among others.
They may not really be new but they're new to me. The ladder is also still pretty active and I was able to get 3v3 games with only a few minutes of wait. On top of the popular maps that are regularly hosted, I found that if you host a quality map from a time long past the game will fill up just because people have never seen the map before and are curious as to what it is - I was having games of Warlock Arena, Hungry Hungry Felhounds, Pimp my Peon, Regicide and Fm Vampire Hunter filling up with players who had no idea what the games were, which was really fun. Having not playing WC3 for years I'm really excited to see how active the playerbase is after having assumed the game was a ghost town by now.
