Is Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 7 able to be used for removal of malware 'Misleading: Win32 Maxepax' on Windows 7 Professional? I tried using Microsoft Safety Scanner to remove it but that program only partially removed the malware. I have run the full scan twice using Microsoft Safety Scanner and the malware is still only partially removed. If Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 7 will not work on Windows 7 Professional what should I use to fully remove the Misleading: Win32 Maxepax malware? MS says on above page: 'You might need to manually remove this program.' Do I understand you correctly that you use Microsoft Security Essentials as your Anti-Virus program?
If so: Doesn't make much sense to scan with Microsoft Safety Scanner because it uses the same definitions as Microsoft Security Essentials. That being said. While looking around trying to find some more info on this detection, I came to the conclusion that it is perhaps connected to one or the other product of ConsumerSoft: My Faster PC, My Media Converter etc etc. I saw this guide: And I've just now tested My Faster PC exe at VirusTotal. See the test result: So I guess you have one or the other product of ConsumerSoft installed. Suggestion to uninstall it and to follow the instructions in above mentioned Malwarebytes removal guide.
